Dispute Over Woman Gets Ugly |
|
| |
Jerome Handy was working as a security guard at a construction site in Brooklyn, N.Y. But police say on July 3, 2001, around 5:00 p.m., he left his post to confront Miguel Licorish. Cops say Handy saw Licorish talking with his girlfriend and got very jealous. He approached Licorish and an argument broke out. However, Miguel Licorish thought he had enough and walked away. But that's when police say Jerome Handy went to his car and took out a hand gun--the argument was clearly not over for him. |

"Red" Is One Of New York City's Most Wanted |
|
| |
Police say Jerome "Red" Handy ran towards his victim, Miguel Licorish, and shot him once in the head. But that was not enough for Handy who continued shooting Licorish several times while he was on the ground. Police say Jerome fled the scene in a white Chevy Monte Carlo. Miguel later died in the hospital.
Handy's criminal history has made him one of the most wanted fugitives in New York City. Police say he was on parole for attempted murder and robbery in 1983, a crime that sent him to prison for almost 15 years. After Licorish's murder Handy failed to report to his parole officer and a parole violation warrant was issued.
Police hope Handy's unique physical characteristics --red hair, red freckles and light skin --which have earned him the nickname "Red," will help people identify him.
Cops say Jerome Handy has expressed that he won't go back to jail. But they are ready to do everything they can to put this man behind bars.
Handy hasn't been seen since 2001 and police say he may be anywhere in the country. However they believe he may be hiding in upstate New York, New Jersey or Georgia. |
