Case Story |
|
| |
A Passionate Family Man |
|
| |
Ronald Morris, or "Ronnie" as he was affectionately known, was a popular member of the Fremont, California business community. Fremont Pawn and Loan was as much a thriving business as a destination for friends to stop by and chat with the well-liked and well-known Morris.
Ronnie was a devoted single dad who coached little league baseball, junior football, and helped out with his older son's high school team.
However, Ronnie Morris was no pushover according to family and friends. A motorcycle accident in his twenties almost left Morris without a right leg. Family members say that the fight to keep his leg infused Ronnie with a passion for life.
As a result, Morris went through 12 operations which allowed him to keep the leg, albeit three inches shorter and nearly unbendable. Cops say that this handicap may ultimately have been the reason why the town of Fremont lost one of its most revered citizens. |

Cops say that on January 6, 2006, three men came into Fremont Pawn and Loan brandishing weapons and ordering everyone inside to get down on the ground. The men held Ronnie, a store assistant, and two customers captive as another smashed his way into a glass display cabinet containing semi-automatic weapons.
Police say that during the robbery one of the men noticed that Ronnie was leaning against a counter and not on the lying on the floor as ordered. Cops believe this was the reason that Ronnie was then shot point blank in the head.
According to cops, the gunmen grabbed half a dozen semi-automatic handguns and various items of jewelry and then exited out the store's rear door. A white car that police believe was a rental car was seen speeding away, but no one saw a license plate number.
Cops are also convinced that surveillance video shows that at least one of the men involved had cased the shop the day prior to the incident. |
