  Case Story
Brazen Daytime Robbery Leaves Store Manager Dead
Otis Cain, a man accused of robbing at least a dozen retail stores in New York City since Oct. 2005, is now wanted for murder after police say his latest strike at a Harlem Dunkin' Donuts shop left the manager dead. Around 1:00 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2006, police say 43-year-old Cain entered the Dunkin' Donuts on 145th Street in Harlem, N.Y.and acted as a customer would, waiting in line until reaching the counter before announcing his plans to rob the place. Then, police say Cain fired three shots at 25-year-old Sanjoy Kar, the store's manager, and attempted to open the register. According to police, the would-be robber fled on foot when the cash register's drawer wouldn't open.

  Caught On Tape
Police say they were able to identify Cain as the killer by watching the store's surveillance video. The store reportedly has three cameras -- one outside, and two inside. Police say the video clearly shows Cain entering the Dunkin' Donuts, shooting Kar, attempting to steal money, and fleeing. Police say the botched attempt wasn't Cain's first robbery -- he is suspected of committing at least a dozen robberies at retail stores around New York since October 2005. According to police, Cain has used a gun before in his robberies to threaten store employees but to their knowledge hadn't harmed anyone -- until he allegedly murdered Kar.
