Gang Fight Ends Tragically |
|
| |
Cops in Sharonville, OH say their city has been the scene of constant fights between two groups of undocumented immigrants, mainly from El Salvador and Guatemala. But on Aug. 20, 2005 two of them, Juan J. Lopez "Lobo" and his friend Feliciano Vicente, took the conflict to the extreme.
Police say the two groups got in an argument at a local store. Lopez and Vicente's gang was outnumbered by the other one, so they called for help. The other gang left before their friends arrived, but the fight was not over for Lopez and Vicente. Cops say the two headed to an apartment complex together with another eight members of their group to look for their enemies and end the argument in their own way.
Police say Juan Lopez and Feliciano Vicente's group confronted the members of the other gang in the parking lot of the apartment complex. According to police the fight involved as many as 30 undocumented residents, most of them from Guatemala.
Police say in the middle of the fight, Vicente pulled out a 9mm handgun, but when he tried to shoot, the gun didn't work. He gave the weapon to Lopez who then allegedly shot Moises Ortiz Mendosa in the chest. According to police, Mendosa's cousin tried to help him, but was shot in the hand. Moises Ortiz Mendosa died from the gunshot wound while his cousin was treated and released at a hospital. |

Down To One: Lopez |
|
| |
Police say Lopez and Vicente fled to Los Angeles. But, on Sep. 1, 2005 Border Patrol agents arrested Feliciano Vicente in Sierra Blanca, TX, near the Mexican border. Vicente told police that he and his accomplice separated in California.
Police continued searching for Lopez, and on Sep. 8, 2005 the Los Angeles Police department discovered Lopez' car at his mother's house in North Hills, Calif. Lopez' mom was arrested for harboring a fugitive but, unfortunately, they didn't find Juan Lopez.
Police say Lopez left a wife and two children in Ohio, and that on Jan. 6, 2006 the three of them traveled to Los Angeles to visit Juan Lopez' mother. However, investigators believe that they really went to visit Juan Lopez.
Investigators also believe that Juan Lopez traveled to El Salvador, his native country, got a new identity and returned to California. According to police, Juan Lopez may have been involved in a murder in El Salvador before alledgely killing Moises Ortiz Mendosa in the United States and that he may have ties with the MS-13 gang. |
