  Case Story
  My Story: By Thomas Smogonovich
Barbara Barnes can't rest in peace until someone is brought to justice. Please help me in getting this story on. I just want to know who did this, so they can suffer like she had to suffer 10 years ago. Thomas Smogonovich describes his childhood friend Barbara Barnes as a quiet 13 year old who rarely spoke unless asked a question. Never one to wander off or be overly curious of her Steubenville, Ohio surroundings, she was content with her normal routine. At around 7:15 a.m., Barbara was known to walk from her home on Euclid Avenue to Harding Middle School, help her teachers after school, and volunteer at the Salvation Army. All this changed on December 7, 1995, when Barbara mysteriously disappeared.

What Happened After She Left Home?
At 8:24 p.m. that night, a worried Kathy Barnes called the Steubenville Police Department  to tell them her daughter still hadn't returned from school. Police immediately spung into action, and began searching for Barbara, but found nothing. Police say the only thing they had to go on were a few classmates who said the last time they saw Barbara was walking down Ridge and Brady Avenues -- only about five blocks from her home. Hours turned into days, and days turned into weeks, but still police couldn't find Barbara. Police say several suspects were interviewed, but there wasn't enough evidence to charge anyone with the disappearance.

  Still No Answers
On February 22, 1996, two map workers were working to verify the wetlands for a Southern Beltway transporation project in Findley Township, Pennsylvania -- about 15 to 20 miles from the Steubenville city line. They were walking along the stream when they noticed that a part of the ground looked strange. When they sifted through the soil, they were horrified to find more than dirt. They discovered human bones. The police department was notified that a body was found and immediately went out to investigate. The Steubenville Police Department and local FBI scoured the area, and a short time later identified the bones as belonging to young Barbara Barnes. Ten years have passed, and even though Barbara's body has been found, her killer is still a mystery. The Barnes family and police hope that someone out there holds the key to this case, and will assist them in getting justice for Barbara. Please help me and others help find who did this and close this case with justice.
