Convicted Felon Robs Again |
|
| |
Jimmy Lee Majors is a pretty familiar name around the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He has a history of armed robbery, burglary, theft, auto theft and assault. Detectives throughout the department have heard of Majors or have investigated crimes he was accused of. Cops are certain this isn't the last they'll hear about him either.
His latest charge stems from a motel robbery. Police say, at 2:55 p.m. on December 2, 2003, Majors came into the Microtel Inn, located off Interstate 85 in Charlotte. The clerk working the front desk asked Majors if he needed a room, but Majors said he was looking for someone staying there. Despite his efforts, the clerk could not find the person Majors wanted to see. Rather than leaving the motel, Majors jumped the counter and grabbed the clerk. According to the clerk, Majors ordered him to open the cash register.
As the clerk reportedly struggled to open the register, Majors grew upset and threatened to kill him if he didn't comply. Police say, the clerk never saw a gun, but Majors said he had one under his sweatshirt. After making demands and forcing the clerk to give him money, the clerk emptied the cash register of less than five hundred dollars.
After getting his take, police say Majors forced the clerk to the ground face down and pulled the phone out of the wall. Fearing for his life, the clerk had no idea whether he would live or die. The clerk was spared his life as Majors fled with the cash in his pockets.

Majors Linked To Gang |
|
| |
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say they have a high volume of robberies in the areas off Interstate 85. In fact, the Microtel Inn had been robbed in the past. Early in the investigation, detectives were able to confirm Majors was the armed robber in this case. They were not surprised.
Just a month earlier, detectives lost a big case against Majors and his accomplices in another motel robbery. Cops in Charlotte caught Majors and a few others in a hotel parking lot with guns, gloves, two-way radios and all the makings of a crime about to happen. Detectives charged Majors but couldn't get a conviction, so he walked.
They don't want him to get away with this robbery. Knowing Majors' past, he is capable of anything. Police fear his robberies may turn violent and some innocent clerk will end up dead if he isn't stopped.
Aside from being a street thug, detectives say Majors is connected to a small Charlotte gang called "CGC" which stands for Cedar Greene Crips. The gang, named after the Cedar Greene apartment complex, is a small but active group of criminals.
Police are unsure if Majors is still hanging out with the CGC, but they have reason to believe he may be laying low in and around Charlotte. |
