Funnyman's Past Has Finally Caught Up To Him |
|
| |
"Dr. Karl Pavlov" is a cast member of "The Ding Dong Show," a raunchy comedy troupe that has weekly performances at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He claims he has also been a regular on "The Man Show" on Comedy Central.
But the man behind the character is Karl Goeke, who cops say viciously molested Paul McLaughlin and possibly many other neighborhood boys while living on the East Coast. Lately, cops say Karl Goeke has had another role -- he's a fugitive from justice. |

Nightmare Of Forgotten Memories |
|
| |
Paul McLaughlin was 33 years old, with a wife and children, when he had a flood of memories that brought him back to his youth. Cops say from about age 11 to 15, Paul had been sexually abused by Goeke and his two associates, Donald Acheson Smith and John Neisworth. According to police, the acts against him were so horrific and monstrous that he blocked out the painful memories.
Back in the early 1980s, police say Goeke told Paul's parents he was a school counselor and an expert chess player. Cops say he convinced them that he should tutor and teach Paul chess.
Once alone with Paul, cops say Goeke began supplying him with alcohol and drugs. Officials say when Goeke started to molest him, he threatened he would tell his school friends that Paul was gay if he told. He also allegedly lied to Paul, saying he could have the state take him away from his parents.
As the abuse continued, police say Goeke introduced Paul to Smith and Neisworth. Neisworth was a professor at Penn State University. According to police, the three men would take Paul on trips to various places in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. During these trips, cops say Paul was subjected to many heinous sex acts. According to officials, the abuse only ended when Paul turned 15 and the family moved. |

Two Down, One To Go |
|
| |
It all started with an unexpected phone call Goeke received from Paul in 2002. Cops say during the half-hour conversation, Goeke admitted that he had a sexual relationship with him.
But what Goeke did not know was that Paul was secretly taping the conversation as evidence to tell his story. Along with recording Goeke, Paul also recorded Neisworth, who cops say also admitted to molesting the boys.
However, there was a big problem. Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania had a statute of limitations on molestation charges. And even if they could be charged, the audiotape confession would not be admissible in court because he recorded the conversations while living in Arizona.
In Maryland, Paul was told that they too had a statute of limitations. But Paul wouldn't take no for an answer. He checked the laws himself and realized he was given wrong information. He found out that Maryland does not has a statute of limitations. When Paul found another victim he was able to convince him to come forward. Eventually a prosecutor from Cecil County, Md. took the case.
Neisworth and Smith were arrested in September 2005, but police say Goeke must have gotten word that he was wanted -- because when they arrived at his apartment, he had already disappeared. |
