Amber's Remains Found, ID'd |

More than five months after 12-year-old Amber Harris vanished while walking home from a school bus stop, human remains were recovered from an Omaha, Nebraska, park. Authorities were tipped off to a location in Hummel Park on May 11, 2006.
A little more than a week later on May 19, 2006, Omaha police broke the news to Amber's parents that the skeletal remains they'd found in a shallow grave were, in fact, their daughter's. |

Vanished On The Way Home From School |

Amber was supposed to go straight home from school on November 29, 2005. Police believe she was intending to do just that when she mysteriously disappeared.
That Tuesday was just like any other school day for the Omaha, Nebraska girl. She boarded the school bus around 6:30 a.m., attended classes all day, and even tutored a younger student in the afternoon. Police say Amber called her father from her friend's cell phone around 4 pm to say she was coming home on the late bus from Beveridge Magnet Center. |

Normalcy Turns To Mystery |

The bus left Beveridge Magnet Center at 4:30 p.m. and a video tape from the bus shows Amber getting off the bus at 5:41 p.m., about four blocks from her house. But, that's the last time Amber was seen.
More than two months after Amber disappeared, authorities found a crucial piece of evidence. On February 14, 2006, officials got a call that a backpack was found in a trash barrel about a mile and a half from where Amber disappeared. The backpack would provide the key evidence that led to an arrest in this tragic case. |
