My Story -- By Traci Hargrove |
|
| |
As a married housewife and a mother of four children, I know that no parent should have to bury their child. More importantly, no child should ever have to die a horrible death at the hands of anyone, especially my cousin, Johnnie.
Johnnie Luckett, 33, lived alone in his North Linden apartment on Moon Road in Columbus, Ohio for about eight months after leaving his hometown of Akron, Ohio. He had decided to move to Columbus in order to be closer to relatives after he finished spending a year in prison for a domestic violence conviction.
Johnnie found refuge in Columbus working for the hotel industry as a customer service clerk. He was well-liked among his peers and made many friends with the people who lived in his building. His life seemed to be coming together until one fateful night in the summer of 2005. That's when police say that something terrible happened inside Johnnie's home.

Neighbors Worry That Something Is Wrong |

Johnnie would visit with the building management office socializing and getting to know all of the tenants in the building. He was well liked by everyone and often helped out the senior citizens who lived there. When the tenants hadn't seen Johnnie in week they became concerned.
The management and neighbors in Johnnie's apartment building began to complain of an odor and flies coming from his apartment. The police were notified and on Aug. 2, 2005, the manager of the complex was sent to investigate what was going on in Johnnie's apartment.
Johnnie was found dead and his body badly decomposed after the suspect left him for several days in the scorching heat. |

An Unimaginable Death |
|
| |
The killers were so cold-hearted that they even turned off the air conditioner to let his body rot in order to hide all the evidence of the crime. This was one of the weeks that we had an extreme heat wave. The temperature was from 95-100 degrees for several consecutive days.
Police are not certain of the exact date that Johnnie died, but they say he was last seen alive on July 28, 2005. According to police, Johnnie had been tied naked to a chair and beaten to death.
When Johnnie was found he had been left in the chair for so many days that his body was eaten by flies and maggots. Police say there was very little flesh left to indicate the type of weapon used to kill Johnnie. Authorities say the killer had also gagged Johnnie, which explains why neighbors who knew him well never heard a thing.
Investigators are still looking for Johnnie's black 1994 Dodge Intrepid with Ohio license plate #D1P8062, which police think the killer took after the murder.
I pray that one day Johnnie's mother can find some peace in knowing that the animals who killed her son are captured one day. Please bring this cold blooded murderer to justice. Someone needs to pay! I know it will take some time, but that is all that this family has now that Johnnie is gone. |
