Veteran Officer Gunned Down In Pennsylvania |
|
| |
Pennsylvania authorities have initiated a massive manhunt for those responsible for the death of one of their own. Corporal Joseph Pokorny - a 22 year veteran - was gunned down December 12, 2005 in Carnegie, Pennsylvania during a routine traffic stop.
The man charged with Cpl. Pokorny's death - Leslie Mollett - admits to fighting with the trooper during the traffic stop, but insists that he left the scene before it turned deadly.
Cops arrested Leslie Mollett on a parole violation but on December 15, 2005, authorities charged him with criminal homicide, theft, resisting arrest, feeling or attempting to elude police, beling a felon in posession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license to do so and disarming a law-enforcement officer.
Cpl. Pokorny joined the state police in 1983 after graduation from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. and spent much of his career working dangerous undercover narcotics and vice details. He was promoted to corporal in 2000 and worked night shifts so he could spend time with his children during the day. Cpl. Pokorny enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the Road Dog motorcycle club. He leaves behind two children and a loving family. |
