  Case Story
Florida Community Mourns Murder of Store Owner
Priteshkumar "Pat" Amin was a popular business owner in Dundee, Fla.  Workers in the area frequented his convenience store on a daily basis, stopping in to get a soda before their shift or to cash their paychecks.  Pat understood the value of hard work, opening his store at 5:30 each morning, and was always willing to give people a break.  Often if a customer couldn't pay for gas, Pat would tell them to pay later or would just add it to their tab. It was this generous, warm nature that made him a positive role model in the community, but which may have also a made him a target for violence.

  Early Morning at the Store
Between 6:00 and 6:30 in the morning on April 1, 2005, Pat began to set up for the day.  It was a Friday and he wanted to make sure he had enough money at the store to cash checks. Some loyal customers arrived around 7:15 a.m., but the store was unattended.  After a few minutes, they realized something was wrong and began to look for Pat.  The customers thought he might have been in the walk-in or the restroom.  But after a quick search of the store, they made a grisly discovery behind the counter. The cash register was open, and Pat was sprawled out on the floor in a pool of blood.

  Robbery Ends in Death
According to police, at 7:09 a.m., a late model GMC Yukon pulled into the store's parking lot. Three men entered the store, followed by a fourth man just moments later.  Police say that approximately one second after the men entered the store a gunshot can be heard on the surveillance tape. The camera shows that the men were inside the store for just one minute and four seconds. Even though authorities haven't been able to identify the men, they say that they could've been Dundee locals who considered Pat an easy target. But authorities are also considering the possiblity that the men were out-of-towners who may have been in town for a major spring break celebration about an hour away in Daytona Beach. Now, more than one year later, the Dundee and Winter Haven communities continue to mourn the death of one of their most beloved citizens and hope that they can find some justice.
