Teen Followed On His Way Home |
|
| |
On a brisk fall night in New York, a 17-year-old was walking home from a friend's house in Staten Island, when he saw a dark-colored car trailing him. The teen, "Michael," nervously turned down a different street, hoping to lose the car. But panic set in when he saw two men step out of the car and head toward him.
Michael knew they weren't about to ask for directions -- they were up to no good -- so he broke out into a run. Seconds later, he was on the ground, bleeding from a single gunshot wound to his left side. Michael called 9-1-1 and watched as the men went back to the car, got in, and sped right past him on their way from the crime scene. |

What Did They Want? |
|
| |
Michael lived, despite a punctured lung from the bullet. Luckily, he got a good look at the men. Although he didn't know them, seeing their faces was about to pay off .
When ballistics came back from Michael's attack, police realized the same gun had been used in an unrelated shooting. When police began interviewing people they thought might be involved, they came across the girlfriend of one of the shooters. That girl's brother was Andre Morrison. When police showed Michael a photo of Morrison, he confirmed he was one of the men who followed and shot him.
Morrison was arrested. Through their investigation, police say they were able to place Morrison's buddy Hakim Tyler in the car with him. Michael confirmed Hakim was the other shooter after seeing his picture.
Police believe Morrison and Hakim were driving along with two other unidentified men, when they saw Michael walking alone. They believe the men decided to rob him, and got out of their car to following him. When Michael ran, they did too -- and Morrison says that's when the gun went off.
Police are now looking for Hakim Tyler, an 18-year-old man who has already served time for armed robbery -- he spent six months at the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in New York. But police say it doesn't look like he's learned his lesson -- and now he's on the run because of the alleged botched robbery. |
