  Case Story
My Story - By Teresa and Joe Lozar
"Brenda has come from 48 hours to live, to where she is today, and its a miracle. I just hope that someone can have compassion to call in if they know anything." Since Brenda Washington's brutal shooting, she has been an inspiration to her sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Joe Lozar. They are amazed by her incredible spirit, and they are determined to help her find justice. On the morning of August 21, 2005, Brenda woke up at 4:00 a.m. to pick up up an overtime shift at Kichler Lighting, where she worked as a lift operator. The new school season was approaching, and single mom Brenda wanted to get some new clothes for her two daughters.  She left her Cleveland, Ohio home at around 4:30 a.m., and stopped at a McDonald's to grab a bite to eat before work. The drive-thru employee asked Brenda to wait while she filled another order. The employee heard the usual idling sound of the car through the loudspeaker as she went about her business. Then, police say a man's voice was heard above the sound of the engine, "Give me your money...all your money!"  All that was heard next was Brenda's scream, and a crash. When the police arrived, they found Brenda Washington's car wedged on top of the landscaped island just past the menu board. Brenda was bleeding profusely from the right side of her head.

  A Fighting Spirit
An unknown gunman shot Brenda from the passenger side of her car.  The bullet entered the right side of her head and  passed through both lobes of her brain before lodging itself in the left side of her head. The doctors told Brenda's family that she would not live more than 48 hours. But they didn't know what a fighter Brenda is. Brenda's family has rallied round her, and draws inspiration from her courage. Her sister Teresa says, "She has to holler out when the nurses move her, she gives it all she's got. As bad as it hurts, she still pushes. Last week she took a couple of steps, and all of the nurses were standing around the corner clapping, and helping her along."

  A Call For Justice
While Brenda is fighting every day to get her life back, and adjusting to the pain of a bullet permanently lodged in her brain, police are still searching for the culprit. They don't believe there were any witnesses who saw the gunman, but hope that someone out there knows something.
