Bird Flies The Coop During Work Detail |

U.S Marshals got their man on November 18, 2005 when they took down James Daniel Bird at a residence outside Shreveport, La. But even though Bird was out for a little more than a week, police say he managed to cause plenty of mayhem in that short time.
On the day of his escape, Bird was part of a 10-man crew working in Warriors Path State Park near the Northeast Correctional Facility outside of Knoxville. At around 9:40 on the morning of November 9, 2005, the work crew supervisor saw Bird flee on foot.
Later that morning, Bird is suspected of sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint, tying her up and stealing her car--a 1998 Honda-CRV with Tennessee tag #EHA-178 (VIN#: JHLRD1866WC049773). The woman was later able to positively identify Bird as the man who attacked her. Now police say he's wanted for aggravated rape, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
Before his escape, he was serving a 15-year sentence for theft and forgery, and would have been eligible for parole in February 2006. |
