Case Story |
|
| |
A Devoted Father and Police Officer |
|
| |
Kevin served not only his hometown community, but his country as well as a member of the Air Force Reserves. His aim was to make a difference. Kevin was very outgoing; he loved sports and had a great sense of humor. His life was full of promise. Those who took his life in such a calculated and cruel way must be apprehended.
Kevin Brame was a father actively involved in his two boys' lives. The young children, five- and eight-years-old at the time of Kevin's death, played sports and Kevin coached their baseball and soccer teams in. Kevin was also very active in the boys' education, going to parent-teacher conferences as well as teaching them outside of school. The three were members and frequent visitors of the local Museum of Natural History in their town, Dayton, Ohio.
While serving his country in the Air Force reserve, Kevin entered the police academy. After graduating from the academy in 1993, Kevin was on his way to fulfilling a career of service.
Once, on a completely unrelated job application, Kevin was asked what his ultimate goal was and in response he wrote "to be a good cop."
Totally invested in his community, Kevin was assigned to street patrol in the Fifth District, the same area where he lived and was later killed. |

Calculated Murder |

I'm sure that my son's case would create tremendous interest. Who would not want this murderer, who watched Kevin take his sons into the house just minutes before mercilessly gunning him down, prosecuted to the fullest?
On Nov. 1, 1999 Kevin spent the beginning of the day in court for his job and the rest with his sons. He took the boys to eat a local restaurant, Rooster's on North Maine Street in Dayton.
He dropped off the boys with his wife at Cherry Drive, at 8:55 p.m. While walking to his car in the driveway, Kevin was shot in the back of the neck with a shotgun at close range and left to die by an unknown assailant.
A police investigation revealed that the murder was not a robbery because none of Kevin's belongings were taken. Police also believe that Kevin was taken by surprise in an ambush, as his police firearm was still holstered at his side.
According to officials, whoever committed the crime planned it well in advance and knew Kevin's schedule for the day.
Police have a four-man cold-case team working to find Kevin's murderer but need help so that the case doesn't go dry. He was such an outstanding member of the police, even a retired homicide sergeant is volunteering his time after retirement for the case. |

A Mother's Tearful Quest |
|
| |
I know your viewers would be moved by this tragedy. Of course, our hope is that someone would be moved to call in with information. There may be persons who have information, but feel it is too insignificant to matter. No clue is too small. As you can imagine, we are quite desperate. Time is our enemy. We don't know how long the cold case unit can dedicate to this investigation, but for Kevin's killers to escape justice would be the ultimate crime. |
