  Case Story
  A Family Man Of Sorts
Arthur Lopez Jr. is a family man -- but not the kind one might imagine. Police say Lopez's family-centered gang operated a major drug ring on the South Side of Milwaukee from 1994 to 1999. The Lopez family originally came to Milwaukee in the 1970s and began delivering drugs throughout the community. According to police, the next generation of Lopezes also had a successful racket, moving as much as 1000 kilos of cocaine in the city. According to cops, the gang had their drug routine down to a science -- using multiple drop-off points and several players in each transaction. But the Lopez gang wasn't the only one in town. Cops say as the '90s wore on, gang activity in Milwaukee increased, and after a few stints in and out of jail by the Lopez brothers, a gang called the Latin Kings tried to move in on the family's territory. That's when things got ugly.

  Murderous Mistake
One afternoon, Lopez Sr. called his boys to let them know a Latin King was heading toward the community center on a bike. Police say Lopez gang members cornered him from all sides and murdered him right there in the street. But Lopez Sr. was only partially correct. The biker had been heading to the community center -- but he'd been disaffiliated from the Latin Kings many years prior. Ironically, the man was on his way to work at the community center where he counseled youths to avoid gangs. Lopez has also been implicated in a drive-by shooting that was directed at a group of rival drug dealers. In this case, almost 40 rounds were fired into a group of people. Each member of the Lopez gang has been convicted -- except Arthur Lopez Jr., who's still on the run. Cops say he's downright dangerous and they hadn't heard a word from him during their hunt for him until he appeared on AMW.

  Taunt Follows Profile
Marshals had been on Arthur Lopez, Jr.'s trail for a long time before they turned to AMW viewers for help in finding the accused triple killer.  While there had been many leads along the way, there were no confirmed situations where cops had actually heard from Lopez. After his AMW profile, however, cops say that all changed.  Lopez left a message with one of the Deputy U.S. Marshals on his trail.  In it, he seems to be pretty cocky that he won't get caught.   On the voicemail he says, "You think you can catch me?  You think you can arrest me?  Hey, Doug!  I'm waiting." Deputy U.S. Marshal Doug Bachert is working hard to find Arthur Lopez, Jr. and he's following every lead that comes in from AMW viewers.  He's confident that Lopez will not be able to leave another message like that... unless it's from behind bars.
