My Story - By Cooter Rivers |
|
| |
My son, Kenya Ray Harris, was maliciously shot to death on July 15, 2004. Kenya was 26 years old, a young, caring man with a lot of potential and a man who touched the lives of many, many people. He was raised in a small town in West Texas and was quick to make friends and was obviously loyal and way too willing to help any friend in distress.. Email My Story To A Friend
Kenya was the youngest of three children born to Cooter and Alvin Harris, Jr in Amarillo, Texas,. He graduated from Permian High School. He worked at Permian Rod Operations in Odessa for two years. He was active in his church and loved to play sports. He played basketball nearly every evening, played football and even helped coach the kids teams in town. He loved to spend time with his two young daughters, Kyra, 8 and Kaelyn, 4 and would often take them fishing.

Family Grieves Loss, Daughters Left With Only Memories |
|
| |
Kenya was ripped from our lives so suddenly. My son was the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Kyra and Kaelyn. He made a lot of wonderful memories with his children and other family members. Our entire family has recieved counseling from an agency dedicated to families of victims of cases like this, but Kenya's oldet daughter, Kyra, has been deeply affected by the loss of her father and suffers an agonizing grief.
Cops say four men from Odessa, TX were having an altercation with four men from Midland, TX the night Kenya Ray Harris was killed. Apparently the men were outside Price's Bar in Midland.
Witnesses say Kenya was attempting to answer a call on his cell phone from his oldest daughter when he was shot from behind and the shots may have come from the roof tops or from the direction of the Starlight Lounge across the street.
Minutes after Kenya was taken to the hospital, his ex-brother-in-law, Billy Penn and Billy's son, were driving past the scene on the way home from a baseball game. They stopped to find out what had happened and were told that Kenya had been shot. They went immediately to the hospital. But Kenya didn't make it. At his funeral, more than 300 family members and friends filled the Faith Temple SDA Church to pay their respects. |

Police May Be Closing In On A Suspect |
|
| |
The appalling truth, that even though a gun was fired and bullets took the life of my only son, no one is being held responsible, no one is being punished for this terrible crime. I, like any loving mother, want only the best for my children, and the life of my precious child was taken, I want answers, I want justice!
Police say they questioned and released at least eight people in relation to Kenya's murder but they have not made any arrests. Now, more than a year later, cops say they are close to naming a suspect and are gathering evidence to support an indictment. But they want to hear from anyone who was there that night or knows what happened. |
