AMBER Alert Cancelled; Brothers Still Missing |
|
| |
Police in Salem, Oregon have cancelled the AMBER Alert for two brothers. Cops say nine-year-old Justin and 18-month-old Jonah Quintero are still missing, however.
The children were last seen with their non-custodial mother, Eve Victoria Quintero, who police initially thought abducted them. Police say their mother is a drug user.
Police say Eve Victoria Quintero is driving a 1985 four-door, gray Audi with Oregon license plate: "ZLT-982." The vehicle isn't mechanically sound and frequently needs water added to it. The children were last seen in the Audi around 5 pm Sunday, September 18, 2005, and police soon issued an AMBER alert. But now, after further investigation, police have cancelled the alert. |

Brothers Abducted During Visit |
|
| |
The Oregon Department of Human Services has legal custody of the brothers, Justin, and 18-month-old Jonah. They had been placed with a relative. The police investigation found that the brothers' guardian was allowing Eve Quintero to have unauthorized visits outside of the guidelines set by On Sept. 16, a family member invited Quintero to visit her children. Quintero took the children from the home and hasn't been seen since.
The guardian and Quintero's 17-year-old son made up the story of Quintero abducting the children so they would not get in trouble with the state, according to Salem detectives.
Salem police still are seeking Quintero and her children but they do not think that the children are in imminent danger. Officials think Quintero is with an acquaintance, Octavio Ramos-Lara.
Quintero, police say, has a previous suicide attempt and is unstable. She has been living in the Vancouver and Kelso-area shelters in Washington. |
