The Key Maker |
|
| |
One of the most important clues in the mysterious disappearance of Tamika Huston was found inside of her car. A set of keys had been left behind that did not seem to belong to Tamika. AMW joined the investigation and hired a locksmith to examine the keys. Investigators took it a step further. They found the person who actually made the key. The key maker led police to yet a different apartment complex- The Freemont Apartments. Police tried the key on every door in the building. It was not until they reached the last door that they found a tongue and groove. The key fit perfectly.
Police were able to trace the key back to a former resident, Christopher Hampton. Upon investigation, cops discovered Tamika had once dated Hampton. With their interest piqued, police got a search warrant and discovered blood in the master bedroom. Through DNA testing, cops were able to determine that the blood belonged to Tamika Huston.
Police questioned Hampton. Cops say he claimed that someone had vandalized his apartment with ketchup and hot sauce. He told police he had purchased a steam cleaner to clean the mess. He is currently serving time for parole violation on a non-related charge.Hampton denies having anything to do with Tamika's disappearance.
AMW Tipster Give Cops A Great Lead
When AMW aired Tamika's story in March a tipster phoned the hotline giving cops some much needed details about Hampton's apartment. The anonymous tipster claims to have been at the scene of a crime unaware of what she was witnessing. The AMW tipster told police that she had seen Hampton cleaning up stains that he said was Kool-Aid. Cops followed through on our tipster's story and it seems to have paid off. With Hampton now charged with murder there is still one remaining question- what happened to Tamika? |

Tamika's Mysterious Disappearance |
|
| |
On June 14, 2004 friends of Tamika Huston began to worry. They had not seen her for at least two weeks. That's when Spartanburg, S.C. Detective Steve Lamb entered Tamika's home and found her dog, Macy, severely malnourished. Anyone who knew Tamika knew that she would never leave her beloved Macy alone.
It became painfully apparent to Tamika's friends and family that something was terribly wrong. Also missing was Tamika's 1991 black Honda CRX. Inside Tamika's home police found her purse with her wallet and driver's license inside.
The question Detective Lamb was left to answer-- where was Tamika Huston?
To find some answers, the detective spent the next few weeks piecing together Tamika's life. They developed a picture of a sweet young lady who loved to sing and even had hopes of pursuing a singing career. She sang at her Aunt Rebkah Howard's wedding to former Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard. See the video clip. She even auditioned for the Fox TV show American Idol.
The one sore spot in Tamika's life police stumbled upon was Tamika's on again, off again boyfriend Terrance Moss. According to police, Terrance had been arrested for assault after punching Tamika in the stomach. A trial date had been set but was postponed after Tamika disappeared. However, after a thorough investigation, police were able to eliminate Terrance as a suspect.
The last time anyone saw Tamika was on May 24, 2004. She and Patricia Norris had taken a road trip to visit Patricia's son and Tamika's ex-boyfriend, Chuck Boozer, in prison. Patricia says it was just a normal day and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. They took a picture that day--possibly the last picture of Tamika taken alive. |

Does A Call Mean Murder? |
|
| |
On June 20, 2004 police caught a first break in the case. They discovered Tamika's car at the Barksdale Apartment complex just minutes away from where Tamika was living. But police could not find anything connecting Tamika to the Barksdale Apartments.
On May 17, 2004 just three days after Tamika was last seen, police recieved an anonymous 911 call. The caller told police his brother had been fighting with his girlfriend and had drowned her in Cleveland Park Lake. Listen to the 911 call.
Police tried to identify the 911 caller, but he remains a mystery. Police also searched the lake, but came up empty handed. |
