  Case Story
Woman Guns Down Tennesse Guard, Husband Escapes
Tennessee officials are on the manhunt for an escaped inmate and his wife who allegedly helped him make the daring getaway. George Hyatte made a court appearance at the Roane County Courthouse August 9th, 2005. Then, cops say Hyatte's wife, Jennifer, pulled up in the parking lot and opened fire on the prison official who was escorting her husband from the courthouse to a waiting prison van.  According to officials, Jennifer Hyatte shot and killed corrections officer Wayne Morgan   in the parking lot of the courthouse, freeing her husband. Then, the pair took off in a blue Ford Explorer. Cops say the Explorer was recovered at a nearby restaurant, with a bullet hole in one of the windows. According to officials, there was a significant amount of blood on the driver's side of the car, leading officials to believe that Jennifer was wounded in the cross fire. Authorities have now located the gold Chevy Venture van the elusive pair were thought to have been traveling in. Stay tuned to AMW.com for the latest details as the story develops.

  Slain Officer Remembered
Records show George Hyatte has a lengthy criminal past dating back to the mid-1980s and has spent much of his life behind bars. Officials say Hyatte has tried to escape from custody five times. In 2002, he and another prisoner overpowered two Rhea County jailers using a makeshift knife fashioned from two toothbrushes and a razor blade. The two felons were taken into custody two days later at a Florida DUI checkpoint. Jennifer Hyatte is a former prison nurse who was fired from her contract job at Northwest Correctional Complex in 2004, cops say, because of her relationship with George Hyatte.
