Murder Mystery Haunts Family |

Johnia Berry's family and friends say she was a vibrant beauty with an endless supply of kindness and generosity.
But on Dec. 6, 2004, someone killed her. The people who knew Johnia best say it's hard to understand who would do such a horrible thing to such a nice person. Now, they want answers and won't give up until they put this case to a close.
It all started during the early morning hours of Dec. 6, 2004. Police received a 9-1-1 call at about 4:15 a.m. from Johnia's roommate. According to law enforcement sources, he told the operator that someone broke into their apartment and started stabbing him. Afterward, police say, he ran to a nearby farm store, where he made the call. When police got to the apartment, they say they found Berry's body laying outside the apartment door. |

The Knox County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the case and are releasing few details about what happened that horrible night. While Johnia's family hopes the investigation will lead to an arrest, they say it's hard knowing that Johnia's killer may still be on the loose.
They also say it's heartbreaking to live each day, not knowing who did this to Johnia. Her family and friends say she had everything going for her and can't imagine who would want to cut her promising future short. Before her murder, Johnia had been preparing for graduation from East Tennessee University. Family members also say she had been preparing to attend the University of Tennessee for graduate school. Johnia was focused on her education because she had hoped to eventually earn a doctorate in psychology and work to help children. She was also engaged to be married.
While Johnia will never realize those dreams, her parents hope to gather more information that could lead to the arrest of her killer. An anonymous donor is offering $5,000 in reward money. The total reward in this case now stands at $70,000. Johnia's family and friends want to close this case once and for all and hope someone out there will help give them the closure they need. |
