Chinatown Massacre |

The Sung Yung Seafood Restaurant in New York's Chinatown is considered the best Fukienese restaurant in the city. It's a busy Wednesday night in June at the height of dinnertime.
All of a sudden, a regular customer barges in, points a gun at another regular patron, and fires 4 bullets into him. Dozens of patrons watch the murder. The killer walks out and hasn't been seen since.
Cops say Sau Yung Cheng is the killer.
He owns a Chinese restaurant in Hamilton, New Jersey.
The victim is Ming Wang -- the manager of a
Chinese restaurant in Trenton, New Jersey.
Cheng is well-known in the community.
In fact, he runs a community association in Chinatown.
Cops say he also has a running feud with the victim.
Ming Wang used to be an attorney in China and is a skilled debater.
Cops say the two both regularly ate at Sung Yung Seafood, and regularly argued about every topic under the sun. |

Motive: Saving Face |

On June 15th, Ming Wang was in Chinatown shopping for his restaurant. He gets all of his fresh vegetables and meat there for his restaurant. He was also buying a birthday cake for his young daughter. She is 10 years old and this could be one of her last birthdays because she has tumors in her stomach and isn't doing well. He buys the cake and asks a waitress at the Yung Sun restaurant to put it in the refrigerator for him. He's a regular there so it's nor a problem. He has dinner but needs to do more shopping so he tells the waitress he'll be back soon to pick up the cake.
When Wang returns, he sees Sau Yung Cheng seated at a front table. The men start to argue, and Cheng leaves. Cheng's wife stays -- and urges Wang to leave the restaurant. Wang refuses -- telling her if he leaves he won't be able to "save face" in front of the crowded restaurant. Saving Face is very important in this community. Five minutes later, cops say Cheng returns and kills Wang.
The motive: Cops say each man wanted to save face. They usually argue about everything from women to food. But this time, cops say, they were arguing about the fact that one of Wang's friends was getting ready to open a Chinese Restaurant that may compete with Cheng's. More than anything, neither man wanted to back down. |

Restaurant Has Storied Past |

To top it all off, the Yung Sun Seafood Restaurant has a storied past. The restaurant is run by Sister Peng. Peng has just been convicted of money-laundering, and smuggling thousands of Chinese immigrants into this country. Cops say she used the restaurant as a base of operations. She is facing 35 years in prison. Now, police are on the hunt for a killer they say killed inside this infamous Chinatown haunt.
