  Case Story
Prime Suspect in Mickey Thompson's Murder Ready to Stand Trial
Racing legend Mickey Thompson and his wife Trudy were brutally murdered in their exclusive Bradbury Estates near Pasadena, CA in 1988.  For the past 17 years, family members, friends, and supporters have kept this unsolved case in the public eye.  The two men seen by witnessess as shooting the couple fled on bicycle and have never been identified.  Who has been the prime suspect in the murders is Michael Goodwin, Mickey Thompson's one-time business partner.  Relations between the two men before the incident were going sour when days before the slaying, Goodwin had lost a civil case to Thompson for $514,000.  Some associates of Goodwin claim that he had made threats towards Thompson.  Police and family members of Mickey and Trudy Thompson believe that Michael Goodwin was the man behind the murders and responsible for hiring the two gunmen.  Police first arrested Goodwin for the double homicides in December of 2001.  Since then delays and defense motions have kept the trial in stasis.  From 2002 to 2004, Goodwin's defense team filed to have the case dismissed or moved out of Orange County.  Ultimately, it was ruled that Orange County did not have jurisdiction over the case which prompted more delays.  Eventually, Los Angeles County District Attorneys Office took the case and filed murder charges feeling that there was enough evidence to go to trial.  The trial is set to start on August 17, 2005.
