Girl Attacked While Walking To School |
|
| |
The identity of the victim in this story is being withheld for her safety.
On June 9, 2004 a 14-year-old girl was walking to Hackett Middle School in Albany. An unidentified man grabbed her from behind, covering her head with a blue towel. When she tried to break free, the attacker sliced her hand with a butcher knife. Luckily, two men who worked nearby were outside on their coffee break. When Curtis Frazier and Perry Smith heard the girl scream for help, they chased the attacker away. Cops credit Curtis and Perry with saving her life.

Witnesses gave police enough information to create a composite sketch of the suspect. He's described as an African American male in his 20's, around 6' tall with a medium build. He wore blue jeans and a white "do rag" on his head.
Police believe her attack could be related to 14-year-old Gretchen Perham's murder.

Tragedy Strikes Albany |
|
| |
Three weeks earlier, on May 13, 2005, Gretchen was walking to the same middle school, Hackett, in Albany. Gretchen always walked to school; it was only six blocks away from her home. But this day was different, she never made it.
14-year-old Gretchen Perham was stabbed 18 times. Her body was found dumped on an embankment across town. Police began investigating the brutal murder, but couldn't come up with any solid leads. |
