A Young Life Changes In The Blink Of An Eye |
|
| |
It was a normal day in Houston, Texas for a local woman and her 12-year-old daughter. Just before 5pm on May 19, 2005, the two pulled into the Fiesta Grocery Store parking lot. Moments later, they'd find that they were not alone.
Before the mother and daughter could make it into the store, a white van pulled into the lot and a white male jumped out. He was looking at the girl and he was holding a gun.
Speaking to the 12-year-old, he ordered her into his van. The mother, unable to understand English, begged to know what was going on. But it was too late. The man, 12-year-old girl in tow, pulled out of the parking lot. This was the beginning of a nightmare.
Police say the girl was taken to an isolated lot where she was sexually assaulted by the man. After the assault, he didn't take the girl back right away. Instead, he took her to a house where he cleaned any evidence off the girl. Then, the girl was taken to a busy intersection near the grocery store and was dropped off. |

Astute Young Girl Refuses To Become Helpless Victim |
|
| |
This was no ordinary girl. After a reunion with her mother, the young victim reached out to police. Not only did she give a chilling and detailed description of the attack, she helped investigators identify a suspect.
It began with a composite, but the girl was just getting started. She was able to take cops to the exact area where the attack took place and even pinpointed the exact house where she'd been taken to clean up after the assault. She also told cops that the suspect had a tattoo on his leg. Cops were off and rolling. |

Cops Name A Suspect |
|
| |
Cops ran checks on the address where the brave girl had been and found that two brothers lived in the house. Neither of them had the telltale tattoo, but did mention that they had a roommate, Robert Allen Ellison. Guess what? Ellison had that tattoo. A photo lineup confirmed that Ellison was indeed the man they were looking for. But Ellison was nowhere to be found.
Ellison Slips Through The Cracks
Then in June 2005, cops say they received a call requesting they do a welfare check on a homeless man in a Texas neighborhood. That homeless man was Ellison -- but when officers questioned him, he told them he was "David Pastori." The officers checking on the homeless man were suspicious about the name, and ran a check. When they discovered it was fake, they confronted him. That's when cops say Ellison proved how low he was willing to go to elude justice for his sick crimes. Ellison gave cops another fake name -- this time -- his best friend's. Ellison told cops his name was actually Jacob Adam Cano, his roommate who he'd been best friends with since the two were in second grade. Cops believed him, and arrested "Cano" for giving a false identity, completely unaware the man they had in custody was actually Ellison -- a man wanted for sexual assault and kidnapping. Ellison was released from jail on July 1, 2005.
Tip-off To Temple, Texas
Ellison may have been able to change his real name, but he couldn't hide his face. After Ellison was profiled on AMW's July 23, 2005 episode, tips poured into the hotline -- including one from an inmate at the Bell County Jail in Texas. The tipster recognized Ellison immediately, and called AMW claiming to know where Ellison was hiding. Cops followed up on the tip, and discovered the inmate was correct -- Jacob Adam Cano was actually Robert Ellison. The tip has led them to Temple, Texas were the manhunt continues. |
