  Case Story
  Routine Traffic Stop Turns Deadly
Officer David Uribe called a license plate number in to dispatch for what should have been a routine traffic stop. That would be the last call he would ever make. Uribe, 48, stepped out of his patrol car and didn't even have time to draw his gun before he was shot down on the street. Eugene Butler and his girlfriend, Dawn Cross, heard the fatal shots from their home. They both rushed to Uribe's aid. Butler tore off his tank top and wrapped it around Uribe's bleeding head while Cross attempted to plug the bullet holes in his neck and head with her fingers.

  A Family and Community Mourn
Paramedics rushed Uribe to a hospital, where doctors kept him alive on life support for more than four hours, until his family could arrive to say goodbye. Uribe's son, Adam, followed his father's footsteps into the Police Department and was on duty when his father was killed. Uribe also left behind his wife, who is a Glendale Police dispatcher, five children and two stepchildren. "I absolutely believe there is a special place in heaven for people like David, who live and give their lives for others," Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon said.  "Today, he joins his fellow heroes in that special place."

  Searching For Leads
Police were looking for the two men who were in the car that Uribe pulled over before he was gunned down. Despite an intensive six-hour, house-to-house search, police were still looking for the killer. Shortly after the shooting, the killers abandoned the car about a mile away. Witnesses described the suspects as two men: One is white, 6-foot-2, 200-pounds, bald and wearing a white t-shirt. Police did not offer a description of the second man. Officers scoured the area with their weapons drawn and K-9 units at their side.  No suspects were found, but evidence from the abandoned car led police to believe that the two men may have been at a Denny's restaurant at 35th Avenue and Bethany Home Road at 4:40 p.m. on Monday. The restaurant provided photos from their surveillance footage of two men, and police said they looked similar to the men seen walking from the car. The two men joined five young people at the restaurant and were all seated together for a short time before they walked out.  Men Wanted For Questioning Phoenix police identified two men they were calling "investigative leads" in the killing. One was 18-year-old Donny Delahanty. The second is 27-year-old Chris Wilson. Police said they believed the two men may be armed and dangerous.  Cops believed the two men were driving a 1995 white Dodge Intrepid with Arizona tag: 105 RHH.
