  Case Story
Family of Ivory Green Anxiously Awaits Her Return
Shirlette Green worried about her teenage daughter. After several turbulent years, Shirlette was anxious for the day when 17-year-old Ivory would mature, and adopt the priorities her mother tried to instill in her. Still, when Ivory called one night, reporting that she was on her way home, Shirlette was skeptical. Several days later, with no sign of Ivory, a nervous Shirlette called police in her hometown of Utica, New York -- some four hours north of New York City. The date was March 16. 2004. Shirlette is still waiting for news about Ivory.

  Police Suspect Foul Play
Initially, police suspected that the girl was a runaway. As the department's juvenile aid division scoured the city, though, another possibility arose. Apparently, Ivory knew a number of drug dealers in Utica, and, today, there's concern that she may have been hurt by them. "Nobody's gone for four years without foul play being a strong possibility," notes Utica Sgt. Scott Cifonelli. "This kid didn't just move to Europe to start a new life." At the time of her disappearance, Ivory Green was four-foot-eleven and 110 pounds, with a mole above her upper lip and H-shaped mark on her shoulder.

"We Need To Know What Happened To This Child"
Police have interviewed dozens of friends and acquaintances, and sifted through more than 200 leads. At one point, investigators displayed a 12-by-25-foot billboard of Ivory in Utica. In 2007, the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation -- a Californa-based organization devoted to raising awareness about missing persons -- offered a $5,000 reward for information about Ivory. Her mother -- who calls police for updates almost daily -- has also pledged to donate her own money to the same cause. Police suspect that Ivory remained in upstate New York, and may have been seen in the cities of Watertown, Syracuse or Auburn. Authorities suspect that a number of people know exactly what occurred. "I'm looking for that one person who can no longer hold on to this secret," says Sgt. Cifonelli. "We need to know, and Ivory's mother needs to know, what happened to this child."
