  Case Story
Baby Left Alone When Mother Disappears
On July 20, 2004 Cortney Fry disappeared from her home in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Cortney vanished while her two-week-old daughter, Giavanni, was still in the apartment -- alone. Cortney had been living with her boyfriend Micah Stewart. They were living together for a year and a half and had Giavanni together.  When Micah returned to the apartment later, after going to visit a relative, he was surprised find Cortney missing. Even more surprising he found his newborn daughter there alone. Authorities now say that Stewart did not notify the police when he realized Cortney was missing. It was her father, Charles Fry, who contacted the police. He had gone to his daughter's apartment for a visit and Micah had informed him that Cortney had been missing for two days. Family and friends say that Micah and Cortney had been having problems.  One of Cortney's friends said that their relationship completely consumed her life. Right before Cortney's disappearance Micah questioned whether he was the father of Giavanni. The couple then decided to go for a paternity test. The day Cortney disappeared the pair found out that Micah was in fact the baby's father. Regardless of the problems between Fry and Stewart, the Stewart family has been very cooperative with investigators. Giavanni is also staying with the Stewart family. The Fry family visits the child often.

  Family And Friends Grieve Together
The family and community are working together to keep the focus on Cortney's safe return. The family has held two vigils for Cortney. The first, organized by Dawn Fry, Cortney's Aunt, was spontaneous and not publicized. The second that took place on October 17, 2004 was more orchestrated. There was poster signing, balloon releasing, and the candelight vigil started at dusk.   At the vigil the family had buttons to give when a donation was made to the trust fund set up for Giavanni. There was also a box where the family was requesting anonymous tips or prayer requests. Many donations were made to the reward fund for Cortney, but also a great amount of money was put into a trust fund for Giavanni.
