Police Say Father Assaults Father-In Law, Abducts Child |

It was a sunny day in Laguna, Texas when five-year-old Shawn Shrewsbury stepped off the school bus. As he ran towards his house he was greeted by his smiling grandfather. But as the bus pulled away danger was lurking in the shadows. Police say a man suddenly jumped out from beneath a flight of stairs. According to cops it was Shawn's 26-year-old father, John Asa Shrewsbury.
Authorities say the disgruntled father grabbed Shawn. When confronted by Shawn's grandfather, police say Shrewsbury assaulted him, then forced his son into a white minivan and fled the scene. |

Police Issue AMBER Alert |

Shawn's grandfather and mother, Kenya Shrewsbury, called the police. An AMBER Alert was immediately issued. Attempted murder charges were placed against Shrewsbury and Cameron County Sheriff Office deputies searched the Laguna Vista area for John Shrewsbury and the endangered boy. Kenya even went on local television to ask for the return of her son.
Police say the Shrewsburys were in the middle of a bitter divorce when Shawn was abducted and authorities thought Shrewsbury may have taken his son out of the country again -- possibly to Mexico or Europe. |
