Brianna Maitland's Friend Organizes Last Candlelight Vigil |
|
| |
After three years of searching for teenager Brianna Maitland, few leads were found. Friends and family will gather in Enosburg Falls' Lincoln Park on Monday, March 19, 2007, marking the three-year anniversary of Brianna's disappearance. The organizer of the vigil, 19-year-old Katie Manning, says, "I've come to terms with (Maitland's disappearance). I don't think she's still alive."
The vigil had been a way to fill the physical and emotional emptiness friends and family felt following Brianna's disappearance. "It was a way of getting everybody together to support her and each other," says Manning, "and if Brianna was out there somewhere, to let her know that we want her home."
As Brianna's close friend, Manning says it would have been unlike Brianna to be gone for so long without making contact with home. "She was smart. She would have found a way, " Manning said.

Cops Search Area |
|
| |
Friday evening, March 19, 2004, Brianna Maitland left her waitress job at the Black Lantern Restaurant in Montgomery, Vermont. It was around 11:20 p.m. She climbed into her mother's green, 1985 four-door Oldsmobile 88 and drove off into the night. Brianna was heading for a friend's house where she had been staying.
At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, a state trooper was dispatched to an abandoned building where he found an empty car which had plowed backward into the back of the building, a mile from the Black Lantern.
Meanwhile, Bruce and Kelly Maitland say they received a call from Brianna's friend informing them she had not returned home after her shift.
Bruce and Kelly quickly filed a missing person report with local police. Nearly a week later, investigators linked the wrecked car to the missing child. They had believed it was deserted by a drunken driver.
Authorities searched the area where the car was found with police dogs and helicopters. They found no signs of the missing teenager.
More than 500 volunteers searched throughout Franklin County. The Vermont National Guard also aided in the search for Brianna.
Police say evidence they uncovered leads them to believe she was more than likely involved with drug dealers who may have had out of state dealings. |

Brianna Possibly Spotted In Atlantic City Casino |
|
| |
Police investigating the disappearance of Brianna Maitland are now looking into a potential sighting of her at an Atlantic City casino. Vermont State Police say a tipster reported seeing Brianna at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel Casino on January 17, 2006, gambling at table for nearly an hour. Now, investigators are looking into whether or not the woman seen at the casino table was in fact, Brianna Maitland who has been missing since 2004.
Brianna Maitland also goes by the nickname "B". She has a scar on her forehead near her left eyebrow and her nose is pierced. A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to Brianna's safe return.
Her family is praying for her safe return. Police encourage anyone with any information to please come forward. |
