Tough Love |
|
| |
Police in Bay City, Texas are seaching for 25-year-old Justin Smith-- a man with a history of trouble making and a vendetta with the man who raised him. Police believe Justin is responsible for murdering his parents.
Justin Smith grew up in a small Texas town. He was the only child of Toni K. Smith, called "TK" affectionately by friends, and Thomas Henry Smith, or "Bubba." But while friends say Justin loved his mother very much, they say he and his father were constantly clashing. Cops say several disturbance calls were placed through the years involving pushing and shoving. According to friends, Justin began stirring up trouble at a young age. They say eventually, Justin started stealing-- mostly from his own parents. But friends say Justin's behavior caught up with him, and he was sentenced to five years of community supervision on burglary and forgery charges.
After Justin's encounter with the law, friends say Justin's parents began to practice tough love. So when Justin stole his father's guns to pawn them off, his parents gave him an ultimatum-- by Monday, December 13, 2004, he either had to return the guns, or his parents would turn him in to authorities for violating his parole.
Police say Justin did show up on the day of the deadline. But instead of turning in the guns, they say he turned one on his parents. |

Smith Goes On The Run |

Soon after the alleged murders, Justin and his wife, Elizabeth, went to a local bar they frequented. Bartenders and friends of the family say Justin had a big tupperware container filled with jewelry that night. They say he told a bizarre tale that he had sold some land to buy the jewels. They bought the story, but police now say it turns out that the jewelry in that container belonged to his dead mother. Justin also was playing pool that night-- with his father's prize pool stick. A friend confronted him about it, saying his father was going to be upset when he found out Justin was using his favorite stick-- and Justin told her Bubba wasn't going to find out.
No one thought twice about the jewelry or pool stick until family and friends hadn't heard from TK or Bubba in a week.
Police questioned Justin on December 20 regarding his parents whereabouts, he said they were on vacation in Florida or Louisiana. But on the 21st, when police stopped by the house to do a welfare check, they found TK and Bubba wrapped in plastic in their kitchen. They had been shot multiple times. |

Family On The Run |

Investigators say Smith apparently left town with his wife, Elizabeth, and their nine-month-old daughter, Shelbie earlier that morning.
Police fear for the welfare of Elizabeth and Shelbie -- especially Shelbie who needs to go undergo important treatments for a tumor on her face.
Police were able to track the deceased couple's debit card transactions, and discovered that Justin had used it at a gas station in a town called Converse. That was the last time Justin was seen. Police say Smith is driving his parents' tan Suburban with the Texas license plate TNT 5. |
