  Case Story
Police Say This Raughton Is Rotten
Police in Auburn Hills Michigan are looking for Anita Raughton ... if that's even her real name. They prefer to call her the "Ruthless Care Giver."  Cops say that Anita is a swindler, who's probably just passed through their town, one of many that she has likely terrorized. Cops say Raughton came to Auburn Hills and became a caretaker for an elderly lady who wasn't capable of taking care of herself - Lorene Moorman. Ms. Moorman, a 79-year-old, paid Raughton $200 a week to live at her home and care for her. Police believe that while Raughton infiltrated Lorene's life and home, the "Ruthless Care Giver" used the classifieds to make another contact in town ... this time the ad was for Pomeranian dogs. Raughton befriended a woman named Dorathy Barnes in nearby Livonia, Michigan. The two of them started a dog business, where they worked with breeding Poms and attended dog shows together. Cops say a neighbor from across the street first noticed Raughton's mistreatment of Ms. Moorman. She confronted Raughton, and police say Raughton decided to high-tail it out of their town.

Raughton Leaves Auburn Hills ... And A Trail Of Helpless Victims.
Before she bolted, cops say Raughton drained money from Lorene Moorman's bank accounts. Then, on Christmas Eve 1992, cops say Raughton went to Lorene's home and tied her up in a straight jacket, weighed her down and left her to die in her own bed. Around that same time, Raughton went to her friend and business partner Dorathy and "negotiated" to buy the woman's car. Even though the two agreed that Raughton should pay $5000, she only gave Dorathy a small portion - about $400 - and implied she would pay her the rest after she went to the bank. While there, Raughton removed all the pictures of herself from Dorathy's "Dog Show" photo albums, saying she wanted to take them to make enlargements. To add insult to injury police say Raughton took some Pomeranian dogs worth $1200 with her. That's when police say she vanished. Thankfully, during a regular visit, a friend found Lorene Moorman before it was too late. Police examined the pills Raughton had been feeding the old lady, and they found out they weren't prescribed to Loreen. Investigators say that they were causing Ms. Moorman to suffer severe lethargy and confusion.  Police say Raughton gave her the pills to make her an easier victim.

Cops: This Isn't The First Time She's Done This And Probably Not The Last.
There are five outstanding warrants for Raughton's arrest in Michigan stemming from her alleged abuse of Ms. Moorman and the crimes against Dorathy.  After she left town, cops tied Raughton to a scam in Utah, where police allege she swindled a pet dealer out of some rabbits.
