Ohio Deputy Killed In The Line Of Duty |

Marion County Sheriff's Deputies are mourning the loss of one of their own, and desperately trying to find his killer.
Cops say that Juan Cruz shot and killed Deputy Brandy Winfield inside his police cruiser on SR-423 in Waldo, just south of Marion. Police say the cruiser was somehow sent over and down a ravine and flipped upside down in a wooded area. Cops say it was later found by a motorist. |

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says that Deputy Winfield was responding to a disabled vehicle report which came in at 3:59 a.m. on Thursday, October 14th.
Deputy Winfield found an abandoned van at the location but no one inside. He called dispatch later to tell them he saw two people walking down the state highway. Winfield radioed in to check out the pair, but the Sheriff's Office says there was no further contact from the deputy.
Police arrested one of the alleged assailants near the suspects' abandoned vehicle at around 6 a.m. He was seen walking roadside with a gasoline can. Cruz, however, remains on the run. Cops say he fled into the woods just north of Delaware, OH. |
