Georgia Police Search for Four Prison Escapees |

A massive manhunt is underway in the south. Federal, state, county and local police are searching for four prison escapees. Georgia Department of Corrections spokeswoman Scheree Lipscomb says, "Most of them are from the northwest corner of Georgia. We assume they may be heading back to that area, but we don't know."
Lipscomb says the four men were serving time for various offenses ranging from voluntary manslaughter to burglary at the Montgomery State Prison in Mount Vernon, Georgia. The prison is located about 150 miles southeast of Atlanta. She says on Saturday, October 9, 2004 the men were in the recreation yard prior to their escape. Investigators have determined the four inmates cut a hole through a security fence at the medium security prison between 9 and 9:30 p.m. According to Department of Corrections investigators, they have not certain what tool the inmates used to cut the fence.

One Escapee Captured |

Investigators believe the men fled in a stolen, 1996, white Jeep Cherokee with Georgia tags 8268ALW. Police are following up on all leads and are canvassing neighborhoods in towns in northwest Georgia, where the men are from.
The escapees are: -Joshua John Thompson, 19, serving an 18 year sentence for voluntary manslaughter-Joseph Lee, 21, convicted of armed robbery and other offenses, serving 12 year sentence-Tracy Mullins, 30, imprisoned for firearms possession and sentenced to 3 years-Micah Sheer, 22, sentenced to 17 years for aggravated assault and burglary
All four are white males who officials say met in prison. Investigators are unsure if the escapees are armed but urge residents to proceed with caution if approached by the men. They remain hopeful to recapture the men.
