  Case Story
  Well Known Executive Goes Missing
James Dale Cockman, 71, a former executive for the "Sara Lee Corporation", is best known for his desserts.  Now his name is all over the news for a different reason. Police say James Cockman didn't return home after attempting to sell his truck on Tuesday, September 14, 2004.   Police say James had parked his silver Suburban at vacant parking lot on Highway 11 and Highway 14 in Greenville, South Carolina and placed a "For Sale" sign in the window.   Cockman's wife, Cathy, said on Monday, September 13, her husband met a couple that was interested in buying the truck at the parking lot.  The couple gave James a $100 deposit and arranged to meet him the next day at 10:00 a.m. to pick up the car and to pay him the additional $8,400.  Police say the next morning, James left his home in his Jaguar to meet the couple at the lot. According to witnesses, James was seen getting a cup of coffee at a convenience store near the vacant lot at 9:45 a.m.  That was the last time anyone saw him When James missed an 11 a.m. appointment at his bank, a bank associate called his house.  At that point, his wife became concerned and got in her car to look for her husband.   Cathy drove directly to the parking lot where her husband agreed to meet the couple. All she found was James' Jaguar in the parking lot with its door wide open.  Police say his cell phone and paperwork regarding the SUV he was selling were on the front seat of his car, but there was no sign of James or the Suburban. She immediately called police and reported him missing.  Police began an investigation into his disappearance and conducted searches by helicopter and in patrolcars, but they found nothing.

  Police Release Two Sketches
Police later learned that a witness saw James speaking with two individuals on Monday night.  They believe the couple are potential buyers of the SUV.  That night they checked out the Suburban and left a cash deposit with James. The witness described the man as a white male, approximately 40 years old, six foot tall and 250 pounds.  According to the witness, the man has shoulder length brown hair, a full mustache and tattoos on both legs. The other person was described as a white female, approximately 5'7" tall and slender.  She had reddish, brown hair that was pulled back in a ponytail.    Police released sketches of the couple and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

  Police Ask Public For Help
Police say the couple was seen driving an older model white sedan with two or more small children.  Detectives want to talk to the two individuals.  They are not considered suspects at this time. Police say they are persons of interest and hope they can help them find James Cockman.   The search is also on for James' silver 1996 GMC Suburban 2500.  The truck's tags are South Carolina with FM79075.  James' friends have offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of a suspect.
