  Case Story
Boy and Sister Taken--Father Won't Say Where
Police in Independence, Mo. are searching for seven-year-old Sam Porter and his eight-year-old sister Lindsey, who were abducted by their own father, Daniel Porter on June 4, 2004. Though police have him in custody, he won't say anything about what happened to his two children. On February 9, 2006, a jury convicted Daniel Porter of kidnapping Sam and Lindsey; he will spend 38 years in prison. People who knew Daniel Porter say his family meant everything to him. He and his wife, Tina, had been married for 15 years. But when things between Tina and Daniel began to sour, police say Daniel became violent.

  Sam And Lindsey Disappear
On June 4, 2004, Daniel quit his job at a plastics factory-- this was significant because he had worked there for twenty years. Cops say Daniel then went to pick Sam and Lindsey up for a scheduled weekend visit. But police say that when it came time to return the children to their mother, Daniel refused.  According to Tina, Daniel began calling her, threatening to kill himself and the children. She immediately reported his violent calls to the Independence Police Department. Familiar with Porter's violent history, investigators did not take these calls lightly. Trouble was, they didn't know where he had gone. One of the places police began searching for Porter was in Trenton, Missouri, where he grew up. When he was spotted in the area changing a tire, deputies quickly made their arrest. But the children were nowhere in sight.

  Daniel Refuses to Talk
As officers questioned Porter regarding the whereabouts of his children, he refused to talk. A few days after he was picked up, authorities hoped they had gotten a break in the case when they found some of the children's clothing in a wooded area not far from where Daniel Porter was arrested. The items found were apparently clothing the children had packed for the weekend. Despite that discovery, there was still no sign of Sam or Lindsey.
