  Case Story
Girl Goes Missing Over Bottle of Tea
On May 27, 2004 Rosa Sandoval asked her mother to buy her a bottle of soda to take to school with her the next day.  Her mother did buy the soda, and a bottle of tea.  Rosa changed her mind and decided to take the tea to school.  But Rosa's sister Gaby wasn't going to let Rosa off without a little ribbing.  She pretended to open the bottle of tea, keeping Rosa from having it.  Rosa went off in a huff.  She took the soda and stormed up to her room. When Gaby went to find her later, Rosa was gone.  Gaby, afraid to upset her mother, didn't tell her about the fight.  So when Rosa didn't arrive at school the next day, everyone assumed she had gone missing on her way there.  For two weeks, police worked with this misconception.  They scoured the route from Rosa's home to her school, looking for clues, but found nothing.  They interviewed possible witnesses, thinking that they might know what happened in that morning.  Now they know better.  They believe Rosa probably left her house the night of the 27th, before midnight.

  Rosa's Mother Fears Foul Play
Rosa's mother isn't so sure.  She doesn't think the tea incident would have made Rosa leave the house.  She also believes she heard Rosa the next morning before school.  So it is still possible that Rosa disappeared on the morning of the 28th.  For Rosa's mother, it doesn't matter when her daughter disappeared, it only matters that she get her back.  So she prays and she waits and she puts her faith in those who are helping her and looking over her. One final clue: Friends have stated that Rosa may have given out her address over the Internet. And whoever was communicating with Rosa may have promised her a "surprise" on the day that she disappeared. However police have not been able to confirm these suspicions though they have not ruled them out.
