Cops Say Fugitive Teamed Up To Commit Assault |
|
| |
It was back on March 19, 1999 that Christian Rodriguez began his assault on the Tampa area. Along with a cohort, Rodriguez made his way into the apartment of Katherine Sapp and her roommate.
It is unclear about how they got in, but Rodriguez and his friend tied both women up and threw the roommate in a bathroom. Katherine was so lucky. Both men took turns viciously raping Katherine. |

Rodriguez Goes Out On His Own |
|
| |
On March 26, 1999, Rodriguez struck again. This time, assaulted a University of South Florida student in her apartment. This time, cops say Rodriguez created a ruse, saying he was collecting signatures from tenants to have a party. When he confirmed that the victim was home alone, he pushed his way in and sexually assaulted her.
In this case, cops were able to recover DNA linking Rodriguez to the crime. But finding him would be a tricky and long proposition.
After being charged with the crimes, cops say Rodriguez fled to Miami and authorities missed apprehending him by just minutes. Cops fear that he's since fled to Puerto Rico. |

A Step Closer To Justice |
|
| |
All along, investigators hunting for Christian Rodriguez banked on information they had placing him in Puerto Rico. The hard part was figuring out an exact address where they could pick him up.
For more than six years the game of cat-and-mouse played out across the Caribbean Sea. Hillsborough County, working closely with the FBI in San Juan, followed up on hundreds of tips, some vague, others more specific. But for all this time, no information pointed them to Rodriguez.
AMW joined the search three times, airing Rodriguez's face. Hundreds of tips came in including a number of general sightings in Puerto Rico. But again, nothing that would lead them to his hideout.
