  Case Story
  The Ladykilling Lothario
Those who knew Gregory Marc Riviera use words like 'gigolo' and 'charming' to describe the Puerto Rican smooth operator.  Cops say that Riviera was a philanderer who romanced women out of their money and seemed to be a self-made man of mystery --flashing money like a jet setter and telling tall tales about an exotic past as a son of a Hawaiian princess.  Ex-girlfriends say that he made them feel like they were the only one for him...that is until he tired of them and moved on.  While none of the women reported any ill feelings about their relationship with Riviera, few can believe that he may have been responsible for murder.  However, police in San Mateo, California don't share the same sentiments. Authorities say it all began on July 7, 1992, when Riviera's girlfriend, Juliette Rivera didn't show up for work at her San Francisco law firm.  Her boss had seen the 25-year-old legal secretary leave work the night before.  Cops learned that she had a date with Riviera later that evening.  They had been dating for a month, but Juliette told co-workers that she wanted to break off the relationship.   When she failed to return to work, Juliette's boss called the police. During the course of the investigation, Gregory Riviera told cops that he and Juliette had drinks together on July 6 and that she had borrowed his truck to run an errand.  Riviera told police that she never returned with his truck and that he found it parked outside of her apartment on July 7.  He told detectives they had a "casual" relationship. Two weeks later, Juliette's nude body was found in a fresh water pond and badly decomposed.  A murder investigation ensued and police started to uncover contradictions in Riviera's original statements.

Cops: Riviera Killed Out Of Jealousy
Police say that Riviera was despondent about his relationship with Juliette and that he had confided to a friend that she had deeply affected him, but she wanted to see other people. Authorities believe that Riviera had followed Juliette to an old boyfriend's house where she spent the Fourth of July weekend.  Cops learned that Riviera dropped by Juliette's home unexpectedly on Saturday and then called her the next day begging for forgiveness.  Riviera called Juliette's work on July 6 pleading with her to have drinks with him that night.  Cops say he was hoping for a second chance, but Juliette wanted to break up.  That evening, investigators believe that Gregory Marc Riviera killed Juliette out of jealousy. Despite numerous airings on America's Most Wanted, Riviera has never been spotted since the time around the murder.  Cops say that Riviera was initially tipped off by a local newspaper printing an article back in 1992 naming him as the prime suspect.  He left town immediately and police missed him by one day.  There have been few reported Riviera sightings and police believe that he may have left the United States or be living under a different name.
