  Case Story
Murderous Robber Poses As Federal Agent
The man who walked into the Xerox Federal Credit Union in Webster New York, on August 12, 2003, claimed to be an FBI Agent. He wore a dark blue windbreaker with the letters "FBI" on the back, the same kind agents wear in the field. Strangely, the badge he flashed said "U.S. Marshals." But that wasn't the only strange thing about the man. Despite the fact that it was a sunny day, he was carrying an open umbrella. And he wore an Afro-style wig. And underneath his jacket, he wore a bullet-proof vest. He told the bank manager he was there to conduct some kind of security drill, and wanted to know about the alarms. The bank manager was suspicious -- and for good reason. Because after a few moments, the man pulled out two guns -- a silver handgun and a sawed-off long gun -- and demanded money from the tellers. Police say that as the robber made his escape, some bank customers were in his way -- and he opened fire, killing one of them.  Although police set up roadblocks in the area surrounding the Xerox Facility where the Credit Union is located, they were not able to catch the robber.
