Case Story |

Jealous Ex Goes On Killing Spree |
|
| |
On July 24, 2002, police say Pinkney Carter burst into the home of his ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth Reed, with a rifle in his hand. Inside he found Elizabeth, her new boyfriend, Glenn Pafford, and one of her four children. The other three kids were asleep in their rooms.
Police say Carter, furious that his relationship with Elizabeth had dissolved, opened fire on her and Glenn. Then, cops say, Carter turned his violence on the last person alive in the room -- Elizabeth's 16-year-old daughter, Courtney Smith. With three bloody bodies strewn before him, cops say Carter turned on his heels and fled.
Hearing the commotion, Elizabeth's 14-year-old son, Rick, crept out from a back room. Confronted with the grisly scene, Rick miraculously had the presence to quickly call 9-1-1. But it was too late. Elizabeth and Glenn died at the scene. Courtney was rushed to the hospital, where she died two days later. Jacksonville detectives immediately pegged Carter as a suspect and searched the area for him but he had disappeared. |
