Case Story |
|
| |
A Cold-Blooded Killer |
|
| |
On August 4, 2001, Patrick Reyes brought his car to Carlos Cervantes to install a car stereo. The Ford Mustang was Reyes' prize possession and he had spent considerable time and money fixing the car up.
While Reyes loved the car, eventually he was going to sell the car to put a down payment on a house for his parents. He went to Cervantes to complete the "dream machine".
Cops say a few days later Patrick Reyes picked up the car and found out the Cervantes had been out joyriding. Additionally, Reyes felt that Cervantes had done a poor job of installing the stereo.
Police say that Reyes asked his best friend Alex Angelo to go with him to confront Carlos Cervantes and to demand his money back. Cervantes agreed to refund the money, but told the two friends he had to go to his father's house to get the money. |

Once at the house, cops say that instead of grabbing the money, Cervantes grabbed his father's Glock automatic pistol. In an effort to conceal the weapon, police say that Cervantes put on a heavy woolen poncho despite the August heat.
When Cervantes entered the car, cops say that he told Reyes and Angelo that he had to go to yet another place to pick up the rest of the money.
Minutes later, when the car slowed for a speed bump, police affirm that Cervantes shot both men in the back of the head, killing them instantly. The car, still in motion, came to a stop after hitting a tree and witnesses watched as Cervantes stepped over Reyes and fled on foot.
Cops say that Cervantes later confessed to his family about the murders, but claimed self-defense. Cops say he has not been seen since. They also say Cervantes may have fled to Mexico but couldn't hack it. Police believe that he is currently back in California working on cars and installing stereos. |
