War Hero Viciously Murdered |
|
| |
U.S. Marshals Top 15 fugitive, Robert Glenn Brown, is wanted for the brutal murder of an American War hero, Larry Hawkins, in Waco, Texas.
Police say Robert Glenn Brown is a 30-year-old deadbeat, a drug addict who spent a lot of his time hanging out at DJ's, a local bar in Waco. Cops think that may be where he first met 31-year-old bartender Larry Hawkins.
Brown grew up under the watchful eye of his stepfather, a Vietnam war veteran, who claims Brown was always in trouble. For instance, his father says, Brown's brother had been killed in the Persian Gulf, but instead of honoring his brother's name, Brown allegedly stole his identity.
In stark contrast to Brown, Larry Hawkins was a do-gooder and a hard worker trying to put himself through college. A stint in the Persian Gulf had left him with a shattered knee. He was surviving on the money he made bartending and his monthly disability check from the government.
The crowd at DJ's bar, where Larry worked, was a little rough - most of the patrons were hardcore bikers. Larry was well liked by his bosses. He was known for chasing drug users out of the bar parking lot in an attempt to keep the place clean. The owner of the bar, a biker himself, and his friends took Larry under their wing when he expressed interest in getting a motorcycle of his own. Larry didn't have a lot of money so he chose a 1980s model Honda. He rode with the group every chance he got, despite being teased by the other riders, who all drove Harley Davidsons. |

A Fatal Friendship |
|
| |
Despite Larry's attempt to keep clean and out of trouble, the people he kept company with were not so noble.
Friends aren't quite sure how or why Larry hooked up with Brown, a man they say epitomizes everything that Larry disliked. Larry had no tolerance for drug users, and Brown had been convicted of possessing pot and cops say he also was a methamphetamine user. Whatever the reason for their friendship, bar patrons at DJ's say Larry was close enough to Brown to buy a blue Ford Mustang from him.
Brown wasn't the only disruptive influence in Larry's life. Police say Larry had recently broken up with a new girlfriend, one with some shady associations. Friends and authorities say the girlfriend's family may have connections to the Bandito's, a notorious biker gang. So when Larry decided to break up with this woman, it didn't go smoothly. A fight allegedly ensued, culminating with Larry asking the girl to move out of his house. Police say that's when Larry told his friends that the girl's father threatened to kill him. Larry didn't take this lightly. He asked his friends for advice, but before long, Larry suspected he was being followed. Larry decided to buy a gun, and who did he take with him to get it? His friend, Robert Glenn Brown. |

If Larry and Brown were so close, it's hard to understand what investigators say happened next. On November 1, 2003, cops say the two men were at Larry's house when Robert Glenn Brown shot Larry multiple times, killing him with what cops suspect was his own gun.
When detectives arrived on scene, they discovered that Larry's beloved bike was missing and there was no sign of his Mustang. Friends also say Larry may have had up to $3,400 in his wallet as he had just cashed his disability check. No money was found with Larry's body. Detectives began their investigation into who had done this, but it didn't take long for a suspect to emerge.
Just days after the murder, a witness reported seeing Brown riding Larry's motorcycle. When cops went to talk to Brown, he was gone and hasn't been seen since. Authorities charged Brown with murder and have been searching for him around the country. Now they need your help to stop this alleged killer from hurting someone else. |
