  Case Story
  Police Say Landlord Murders Tenants
Santa Cruz police are looking for Angel Manuel Rivera, who they they say murdered three of his tenants on June 26, 1991. Witnesses saw Rivera pull up to the Santa Cruz house he rented out to several tenants. According to officials, Rivera had a heated argument with Geronimo Aragun Modesto about working on cars in the driveway of the house. Police say Rivera then pulled out a gun and shot Modesto, killing him immediately. Hearing the shots, officials say, Juan Rodriguez, a father of two, ran outside to see what the commotion was about. Police say Rivera shot him; Rodriguez died at the hospital shortly after. Police say Rodriguez's common law wife, Sandra Reyes, ran out of the house next leaving their two small children inside and was shot as she exited the front door. Rivera fled and has been on the run ever since.

  Life on the Run
Police allege he stayed with family in the Milwaukee area and Florida, as well as his native Puerto Rico. In 1999, Rivera surfaced at the home of a distant cousin, Felix Gusman. According to officials, the Gusman family offered Rivera a room, telling him he could stay for a few nights or until he found a place to live. Rivera, however, ended up staying for several months. Police say Gusman heard that Rivera had killed someone and confronted Rivera. According to officials, Rivera stated that it was self-defense and that he was the victim of a stabbing. He even showed Gusman old surgery scars as evidence. During this time, police say Rivera became involved with Gusman's daughter, Myra. Rivera moved to East Chicago and asked Myra and her 11-year-old son, Orlando Sotomayer, to join him. Gusman warned his daughters of the murders, but she went anyway. Police say Gusman never saw his daughter again.

  Mysterious Death, Rivera Missing
On December 12, 1999, Myra's 11-year-old son said goodnight to his mom and Rivera and went to sleep. According to officials, the next morning, he woke up to find his mother strangled to death where he had last seen her and Rivera gone. Since 1999, Rivera has been getting food and shelter from the unsuspecting Puerto Rican Catholic Church. Claiming to be a religious man, he seeks the help of community and priests for food and shelter in exchange for light yard work and home repairs.
