  Case Story
Shoot Out Erupts During Armored Car Robbery
When Andre Herring and Joe Micieli, employees for Patriot Armored Cars, pulled up to the Suffolk County National Bank in Riverhead, New York, they thought it would be a normal cash pickup.  Police say without warning, three black males - Richard Blie, a former employee of Patriot Armored Cars, Jeffus Leftenant and Jamal Starks - jumped out from behind some bushes and opened fire. In the ensuing chaos, the three gunmen were able to grab some of the bags of cash, about $300,000 worth. Joe and Andre, both wounded, were able to get back into the van and drive from the scene. Joe was able to radio his dispatcher to call for help. The dispatcher had more than two shot co-workers to be concerned about - Joe Micieli is also his father. Joe Jr. was able to call for help. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they were able to save Joe Sr., but Andre Herring was not so lucky. He died of his wounds.

  Two Down, One To Go
For the three robbers, it was not an easy getaway. Bleeding from gunshot wounds, they knew they needed help, but they had to think fast. According to officials, they drove to a girlfriend's house and had her drive them to Jamaica hospital in Queens. When they got there, they told the hospital staff that they were all shot in a bad drug deal. The hospital staff called the police. When the NYPD showed up to fill out the reports, they knew these guys weren't being truthful. So, the cops took pictures of the subjects as they sat in their hospital beds. A few days later the NYPD learned that their three gunshot victims were exactly the gunmen who killed Andre Herring in a heist on Long Island. They were able to arrest two of the men, Richard Blie and Jeddus Leftenant, but the third man, Jamal Starks, got away. Blie and Leftenant were convicted of murder and armed robbery. Both are serving 50 years to life. Stark still comes back to New York, but cops have been unable to nab him.
