A Family's Murder Hidden By Flames |
|
| |
On the morning of April 10, 2001, police and fire units responded to reports of an explosion at the Fisher residence in Scottsdale, Ariz. The fire burned for hours and when it was finally extinguished, officials made a gruesome discovery inside the rubble -- the bodies of 38-year-old Mary Fisher, 12-year-old Britteny and ten-year-old Bobby Jr.
To make matters worse, authorities quickly determined that the mother and children did not die in the fire, they had been murdered in their beds the night before. Mary was shot in the back of the head and her throat had been sliced. The children's necks were also slashed. Arson investigators said that the house was rigged to blow because a lit candle was left in the home and the gas furnace had been disconnected.
Most shocking of all, the main suspect was none other than head of the Fisher family, Robert Fisher. Cops believe that when Mary Fisher confronted her husband about a ending their marriage, Fisher decided to avoid a messy divorce and simply wiped the slate clean by killing his family.
Police tell AMW that Fisher fled soon after the murders, taking his wife's SUV and the family dog, a Queensland Heeler named "Blue." |

The Hunt For Robert Fisher |
|
| |
Ten days later, police located Mary Fisher's SUV abandoned in Tonto National Forest, 100 miles north of Scottsdale.
Despite a massive search, all that was recovered was the family dog, Blue. There was no sign of Robert Fisher or where he might have gone.
The FBI got involved a year later and Fisher was quickly added to their Top Ten Fugitive list where he's been ever since.
In 2003, AMW brought in renowned FBI agent Ralph DiFonzo, a 30 year veteran who is credited with catching two of the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted fugitives.
While profiling the murder suspect, Agent DiFonzo discovered Fisher has a "Jekyll-Hyde" personality. The fugitive's life was full of inconsistencies. Fisher worked as a lowly hospital tech and often bragged about saving lives. Yet, on the weekends, he hunted animals and smeared their blood on his body. The FBI reports that Fisher was a born-again Christian, yet he frequented strip clubs and was accused of often cheating on his wife.
"This guy was a balance of good and evil it seemed like for a very long time," says Agent DiFonzo.
Now, authorities say Robert Fisher could be hiding anywhere in the United States. He has a noticeable gold front tooth that replaced a left front bicuspid and also walks with an exaggerated stiff posture due to chronic back pain. |
