A Con's Almost Perfect Scam |
|
| |
On the outside, Bobby Shamburger appeared friendly and trustworthy. But, federal agents say on the inside he was coldly calculating - a perfect con man. Inspectors say the scam began with the purchase of a few legitimate insurance companies. Shamburger and five associates allegedly made hundreds of financial maneuvers in an 18-month period. |

Hunter Has Become The Hunted |
|
| |
For years, 16,000 policyholders had invested in insurance annuities hoping to retire with the money. But, after Shamburger and his associates took over, federal inspectors say the invested money was used like a personal account; Shamburger even used it to pay for his cable program.
By 1991, investers learned the harsh reality that their policies were worthless and their retirement would not be what they had dreamed of. Most of Shamburger's associates in the fraud have been convicted, but Shamburger is nowhere to be found. |
