Absentee Father Accused of Killing Own Son |
|
| |
Life started out pretty rough for Billy Fischer. His family split up while he and his brother Jason were young. William Fischer Sr. abandoned the family, leaving Billy's mother to take care of the boys. Billy had cystic fibrosis, a terminal disease that weakens the lungs. The task of raising two children alone proved too much for their mother, and it wasn't long before the boys were split up and put into foster homes.
The boys tried to stay in touch over the next several years. Then, in 1982, they got word that their father, William Fischer, was getting remarried. According to family, when Fischer's new wife discovered he had two sons, she convinced Fischer to take the boys in. But, the boys stated that Fischer never wanted them back. Jason even claimed that Fischer expressed that himself.
Cops believe Fischer may have had a good reason not to want the boys around - his affinity for crack cocaine. Investigators say Fischer was an addict. It wasn't long before Billy Fischer ventured out on his own again, despite the fact that he was growing more sick. |

Son Found Shot 18 Times |
|
| |
On December 21, 1986, the bodies of Billy Fischer and his friend, Nancy Hyer were found in the trunk of Nancy's car. Billy had been shot 18 times. Nancy, who was found nude and wrapped in a blanket, had been stabbed twice. Police say that on December 10, 1986, Fischer had invited his son to his Southampton, New York home.
Police speculate that Billy, suffering from cystic fibrosis, probably asked his father for money to help cover mounting medical bills. The next day Billy called his friend Nancy and asked her to pick him up. Police say hours later Fischer shot Billy, then stabbed Nancy to death. Police say Fischer then dumped the bodies in the trunk of Nancy's car and left it at the Southampton Elks Club. Neighbors say he spent the next several days cleaning his home, trying to cover up the crime scene. Police searched Fischer's home and found blood and fibers matching the victims in the vacuum cleaner. They sprayed Luminol throughout the house and discovered blood had been cleaned off the walls. Bullets were also found in the walls. On February 27, 1987, Fischer's abandoned Mercedes was found at New York's Kennedy Airport, but he hasn't been seen since. |
