Seaside Murder Suspect Still At Large |

| |
Santa Monica, Calif. is a picturesque coastal town known as a sublime vacation destination due to its beaches, shopping and Southern California weather. 50-year-old Horst Fietze saved for years to afford the perfect getaway for he and his wife.
The happy pair spent their last night walking with another German tourist couple along the beachfront pathways adjacent to luxury hotels and trendy restaurants. It should have been the end to an ideal vacation.
Cops say that the group was approached by two females, Tyrena Griffin and Roshawna Roberts, and two males, Lamont Santos and Paul Edmond Carpenter. They demanded money and Santos pulled out a gun. In the struggle that ensued, Santos shot Horst and his wife screamed for help as her husband lay dying. Tragically, Horst and his wife were two weeks from celebrating their wedding anniversary.
In the subsequent investigation, Santa Monica police were able to apprehend Griffin, Roberts, and the gunman, Lamont Santos. While they're all currently serving jail time, Carpenter has remained at large.
However, authorities say that the Fietze murder wasn't the first transgression for Carpenter. In January 1996, he was charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He posted bail and fled. Two years later, he resurfaced again in South Carolina, this time carjacking a man at gunpoint and pistol-whipping him before opening fire as the victim ran for his life.
It's been almost ten years since Horst Fietze was murdered on that October evening and Carpenter has remained at large. On May 31, 2007, the FBI named him to their 'Featured Fugitives' list in hopes of putting a spotlight on the suspected murderer and bringing him to justice. |
