Cops: If He Can't Have You, He'll Kill You |
|
| |
Cops say Edward Myers is the type of guy who likes to control the women in his life. They say if the women won't live solely for him -- he doesn't want them to live at all.
Myers was able to woo one woman, and ended up marrying her. He was everything she wanted in a man. But once they tied the knot, Myers' bride realized he was not what he seemed. Hoping he'd change, Myers' wife stayed with him, and they even had three children. But Myers' occasionally hit her, and refused to get a job or work. Things were progressively getting worse -- and in 1974, Myers' wife found out just how far he'd go to control her.
After filing for divorce, Myers' wife thought she could put the abuse and marrige behind her. But Myers had other plans. On April 11, 1974, Myers was waiting for her as she pulled into the parking lot of a grocery store with her three kids. When his wife went into the store, Myers gave his kids some money to buy candy, telling them he had some things he had to discuss with their mother. In reality, Myers didn't want to talk at all. He pulled out a gun and shot her in the stomach.
In a panic, his wife scrambled for safety, running toward the store. She collapsed, and begged Myers for mercy. Instead of putting the gun down and walking away, Myers raised it and fired two shots into her face -- right in front of their children and store customers.
Myers was found mentally incompetent to stand trial for his wife's murder, and was sentenced to time at a mental hospital. In 1978, he escaped -- but cops caught up with him and threw him into prison. Ultimately, Myers was released, and travelled back to Jackson Township, Ohio to start over.
But cops say history was about to repeat itself. |

Taking Jealousy To A Whole New Level |
|
| |
When Teri first met Edward Myers, she says she thought he was a great guy, and the two began dating. But soon, the real Myers was exposed, and Teri wanted nothing to do with him. Teri says she broke it off, began seeing another man, and eventually married him.
Cops say Myers couldn't handle the fact Teri had moved on, and decided to take matters into his own hands...again. They say he kidnapped Teri and held her for about a week, forcing her to stay in his car or with relatives. Teri says she was scared of Myers, but gathered the courage to ask him to take her home -- back to her new husband and life.
Cops say Myers agreed to her request, and began driving in the direction of Teri's house. But before they got there, police say Myers took a turn down a back road. Cops say he ignored Teri's pleas to go home, and stopped the car, telling her he had to go to the bathroom. When he returned to the car, cops say he reached into the glove box, pulled out a knife, and began stabbing Teri. An enraged Myers allegedly stabbed Teri five times before his knife broke -- screaming he was going to kill her. After that, cops say he dragged Teri out of the car and beat her until she fell unconscious. Then, he fled. |

Real-Life Lassie |
|
| |
Cops say Myers had left Teri for dead in six-foot weeds near where the car had been parked. Teri had little chance of survival -- cops say Myers had stabbed and beaten her so badly her eye had fallen out of its socket, and she was losing large amounts of blood.
But Teri says an unlikely hero came to her aid -- a long-haired female dog, part Collie and part Irish Shepard. When Teri came to, she says the dog was licking her face, and wouldn't stop until she was completely awake.
Teri was weak, and had no strength or energy to move. She says she told the dog to stop. The dog did stop -- but it turned for the gravel road nearby and began to bark for Teri to follow. Teri says she couldn't move, and that the dog must have realized this because she came back to Teri and licked her some more. Remarkably, Teri stood up. Again, the dog ran for the road, barking for her to follow. Somehow, Teri made her way down the gravel road, stopping every few feet to rest. She was losing a lot of blood, and was extremely weak. But the dog wouldn't let her stop for too long. She continued barking -- and Teri says it was as if the dog was saying, "don't stop now."
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Teri remembers seeing a postal worker at a mailbox. The dog barked furiously until the postal worker saw Teri. An ambulance came, and police were dispatched to the crime scene. Cops say the dog never left Teri's side.
Both Teri and police credit the dog with saving Teri's life. Because of the dog, who Teri has since adopted and named "Angel," doctors were able to restore Teri's sight and give her facial reconstruction. She is now back with her husband.
Soon after Teri was attacked, cops found Myers' car, full of evidence linking him to the attempted murder. |
